
How do I design a sustainable world?
Adventure Overview
7th and 8th Grade Guardians will venture into the realm of environmental sustainability and justice. In focusing on the UN Sustainable Developments Goals and the dilemmas related to it, Gaia’s Guardians will design, develop, prototype, and share their ideas of how to counteract actions that harming our planet and so that Guardians are able preserve a world for future generations.

The Quests
Jedi Initiation Quest
Driving Question: What do I need to learn so that I am successful in STEAM?
In this initiation process, our guardian will be learning how to learn the basics of computing by learning how use the Innovator’s Hub to communicate and collaborate with other, participate in a variety of activities, and demonstrate what you know. Innovators will also learning how to organize themselves on Google Drive so that they know where all of their digital files are.
Promise of the Guardian
What promises can I make so that I protect and preserve the natural resources that planet provides for generations to come?
Leading in environmental justice require our Guardian to know more about the natural environments and how an ecosystem works. Guardian will have an opportunity to research an ecosystem and create an interactive multimedia tour of the ecosystem researched.

Trashy Treasure Quest
How do I repurpose items that people throw away so that we lessen the amount of garbage polluting our oceans and filling up our landfill?
Garbage and trash is detriment to our planet yet they can from the natural resources of our planet. Guardians will be looking into how stuff is made and where stuff goes when it is thrown away. Guardian will challenge their own consumerist mindset to look into ways in which they can upcycle trash in items of value.
Food Oasis Quest
How do I design a environment and process where I can grow food that can nutritionally nourish me?
Many of our young guardians are unaware of where the food we eat comes from. Let alone they eat food that has been processed. In this quest, we will be look first at the soil and how we can make good soil through composting. We will be learning how to make sprout seedling and create a mini garden in front of our classroom.

How do I design a sustainable city?
How do we know if a city is designed for sustainable purpose? In this adventure we will go in depth of what it mean to design for sustainability and redesign a piece of San Francisco so that that environment work in tandem with nature’s processes.
Story of Change
What narrative should I pass on to empower our future citizens to take care of our planet for future generations?
In this final quest, guardians are going to be passing along wisdom to their audience on how to protect the environment using short stop motion public service announcements.

What did I learn from this adventure and what pieces of advise should I pass on to the next generation of Innovators?
As the STEAM:Gaia Adventure comes to a close, student will reflect on their journey and provide pieces of advise to the next generation of Guardians for the upcoming year.

STEAM:Gaia class is action based learning adventure where we immerse ourselves in learning how to live sustainably by know more about the organisms in the ocean environment, making sustainable home, learning about urban farming at Alemany Farm, and informing our school community about the amount and type of food we are wasting.
